St. Therese Catholic School

Pre-K Overview

Pre-k Program

St. Therese provides many options to prepare your little one for Kindergarten. Our half day program runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and our full day program is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The full and half day programs often come together for field trips, “play dates,” outdoor play and time with our grandfriends. Whether you choose our half day or full day program, your student will be academically challenged, nurtured, and have fun!

+ Curriculum

Our curriculum is well-rounded, play- and nature-based, and fun! We know kids learn through play, so we provide multiple opportunities for active, engaged play-based learning to happen every day. Students have a chance to participate in self-guided, cooperative, and teacher-led play and learning. Since we are also nature-based, many of these opportunities are provided in our outdoor classroom or across our beautiful 29-acre campus.

Our Pre-K program also provides academic experiences to help ready your child for Kindergarten. Each day, students are given academic choice time in which they engage in teacher-led, academically based activities. Students also participate in daily Group Time. This time is structured to help with kindergarten readiness skills and appropriate social interaction. These academic times are planned based on "The Creative Curriculum".

In addition, Pre-K students take part in Spanish and Music classes and have opportunities for Physical Education and Art.

+ Nature

Our preschool has a focus on nature and outdoor play because we know this makes happier, healthier kids! We fully utilize our beautiful 29 acre campus. We support the growing body of research that shows unstructured, outdoor play helps kids with their cognitive, emotional, and physical development.

From the woods to the playground, your child will be blessed with lots of time enjoying the great outdoors! We also have access to a large indoor gym on those cold or rainy days.

+ Teachers & Staff

Our teachers are licensed, experienced and most importantly, love kids! The quality of our program begins with our teachers. We maintain low teacher to student ratios, so your child is always getting the attention and care they deserve. Open and consistent communication between teachers and parents is critical to our success.

+ Intergenerational Learning

Your child will have the opportunity to play games and have fun with their “Grandfriends” at Deephaven Woods senior living facility, experiencing compassion through intergenerational interactions.

Preschoolers also interact with older St. Therese School students through our “buddies” program. This provides a wonderful leadership opportunity for older students, while our preschoolers have a friend and role model to look up to.

+ Faith

Most importantly, your child will be immersed in faith, knowing they are a unique and beautiful child created in the likeness of God. From our chapel to our church, to God’s creation surrounding them outside, there are so many places your child will feel and know God’s presence in their day at St. Therese. Through songs and prayer, your child will grow in their faith each and every day.

Once your child is four-years-old, he or she will also have a chance to participate in school Masses. Pre-K students are matched up with a “Mass Buddy” from an older grade and attend Mass each week with the rest of the school community.
