 Overview

Welcome to the St. Therese Confirmation Program! We are dedicated to helping your son or daughter grow in their relationship with Jesus and love for His Church as they prepare for this holy sacrament. Through the Confirmation process, we will…

  • Teach your youth about Christ, His Church, and His sacraments

  • Lead them to encounter Christ through worship and the sacraments and deepen their relationship with Him

  • Challenge them to discover their God-given gifts and the vocations to which God calls them

  • Give them vital tools to deepen their life of prayer

  • Introduce them to a vision for a full life in Christ

  • Form them into a community of disciples prepared for Jesus' mission in the world

We pray that through preparation for the reception of Confirmation, your son or daughter will find a home and purpose in the Church as they are conformed to Jesus' heart!

If you have any questions, please contact Joe Schiltz (jschiltz@st-therese.org or 952-261-0591) for more information.

Confirmation Prerequisites

Before joining our Confirmation program, candidates must

  • Be in 9th grade or older

  • Have received First Communion & Reconciliation

  • Have successfully completed ASCEND (the first year of Confirmation preparation at St. Therese) or its equivalent, including attendance at a Catholic school.

  • Be regularly practicing the Catholic faith, including weekend Mass attendance

Confirmation Requirements

Here is an outline of what is expected of participants during their Confirmation year:

  • Weekly Sunday Mass attendance, daily prayer, and regular reading of Scripture – These are the foundation of Christian life. We cannot grow in the spiritual life without regular contact with Our Lord.

  • EMBARK – Candidates will be required to take part in EMBARK, our Wednesday night High School Faith Formation program, in order to learn more about the faith and grow in community with their peers.

    • Meetings will take place Wednesday evenings (from September 24th – May 6th) from 6:30 – 8:00.

    • Candidates are expected to attend at least 2 meetings per month.

  • Sunday Confirmation Sessions – Once a month, we will hold Confirmation sessions for candidates and their sponsors, where we will discuss topics specific to the sacrament of Confirmation.

    • These sessions will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served.

    • They will be held on October 12th, November 23rd, December 14th, February 1st, March 15th, April 19th, and May 17th.

    • Candidates have a “free pass” to miss one Sunday session.

  • Home Study – Ahead of our Sunday meetings, candidates and their sponsors will be asked to read chapters from the YouCat Confirmation Book, engage in discussion about the material, and complete a brief reflection activity.

  • Retreat – This will be held on Saturday, January 10th, from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm (including Saturday evening Mass). Lunch and snacks will be served.

  • Confirmation Interview – Candidates will be asked to take part a brief (15-minute) interview with a member of the Faith Formation staff to help them reflect on their preparation for Confirmation. These interviews will take place on January 15th. (Other dates/times can be arranged if necessary.)

  • Letter to Fr. Andrie – Ahead of Confirmation, candidates will be asked to write a brief (1-page) letter to Fr. Andrie formally requesting the Sacrament. This will be due at the February 1st session.

We will be holding an informational session on Sunday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Therese Community Room. Candidates, parents, and sponsors who were not able to attend our spring informational sessions are strongly encouraged to attend.

Our Sending Ceremony will take place during the 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, February 8th, 2026. We will offer a special blessing for all candidates, parents, and sponsors ahead of the Confirmation Ceremony.

The Confirmation Ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 21st, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral in St. Paul.
