St Therese Garden Ministry Featured in ICA Newsletter!
"Since 2010, the Garden at St. Therese has been growing and donating produce for ICA—over 22,000 pounds to date! Each week, members of the St. Therese congregation volunteer in the garden to plant, weed, and harvest. The goal for 2018 was to grow 4,000 pounds for our neighbors in need. As of September 1, they had already donated 3,634 pounds! With another few weeks of heavy harvest, they are set to exceed their goal.
The Garden has planted a few special plants this year for ICA clients, including papalo, a heat-loving herb popular in Central and South American cooking, and epazote, an aromatic oregano-like herb popular in Mexican cuisine. They also increased their planting of the fruits and vegetables most popular with ICA clients, including melons, peppers, tomatoes, and squash. All told, this year the Garden is growing over 22 varieties or fresh produce for ICA.
Thank you so much to everyone at St. Therese for donating your time and energy to feed our neighbors in need! Your beautiful fresh produce brightens the lives of our clients and we are truly grateful."
